Hiya, I generally only use molds for decoration. The foam I use is called Plaztazote and is in sheet form. Have a look at some of my other posts, it should give you and idea of how I make things. Am always happy to answer any questions.

what do you use to make the molds, I have tried plaster but the foam came out strange looking and crackled, I could sand it but it looks like you have this stuff down. What do you use for the mold, what kind of foam do you use and what kind plastic covering did you use to keep it durable. I was told just to pick out a plastic halloween sword and make a mold of it, but I also wanna be able to make my own designs.

Thank you! For painting use acrylic paint mixed with latex. You don't need a lot of paint to latex and the thing to remember is the latex with make the paint look a lot lighter than it will dry. You can always test it on a spare bit of foam if you are not sure. To seal it you can use use talcum powder which is cheap but obviously has to be redone fairly often. Many people use a product called Isoflex Special Primer - it is very noxious and ruins brushes more than latex. I've use acrylic varnish a lot and it seems to work. I use a mixture of Liquitex Matte and gloss. Hope that helps. If you are just getting into Larp I recommend Rule 7 forums

Wow very nice spear! Im just getting in to LARP and was looking to make something close to this. But I dont know what to use on the latex for paint? Also what to use to seal it with? any help would be grate.
